Description:
Saturday 7 June 2025 at 6:00 pm at the Museo della Marineria Alberto Gianni on Lungo Canale Est 32 in Viareggio (Lu), OLTREMARE, a solo exhibition by the painter Armando Orfeo, will be inaugurated.
On display is a cycle of recent oil and acrylic paintings on canvas. The protagonist of his works is the character, created by him, of Mr. Cozza, a sort of stereotype of the average bourgeois: immersed in singular marine settings, he seems perpetually torn between routine and flights of fancy.
The artist captures the irony inherent in the destiny of man, reproducing surreal situations in which the only way of salvation appears to be Pataphysics, the science of imaginary solutions.
Armando Orfeo - born in Marina di Grosseto (Gr) in 1964 - boasts a rich exhibition curriculum, with numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, in addition to his presence at important Italian art fairs (Padua, Brescia, Milan, Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Florence, Viterbo, Rome) and foreign ones (Strasbourg, Ghent, The Hague, Luxembourg).
In the 80s he collaborated with the comic book magazines Tempi aggiuntive and Frigidaire, publishing a series of stories with characters of his own invention. As an advertising illustrator he has worked, since 2000, with Artemidatre of Milan, for which he carries out image projects commissioned by prestigious Italian and foreign companies, including: FIAT Engineering, Finanza & Futuro, LifeScan, Perfetti, Sanofy-Aventis, Sperlari, Sun Microsystems, Tre Marie, Vaillant.
In 2009 he created a series of illustrations for De Agostini Periodici, which appeared in the magazines Yacht Capital and The Cup. The exhibition, sponsored by the Municipality of Viareggio, is part of the series of events Il mare inbottiglia, promoted by the Association of Friends of the Maritime Museum of Viareggio.
It is organized in collaboration with the Mercurio Arte Contemporanea gallery of Viareggio and is accompanied by a catalog - edited by Gianni Costa - with a critical text by Sandra Maria Dami.
It will remain open until Sunday 29 June 2025,
with the following hours: 7 - 14 June, from Wednesday to Sunday, 15:30 - 19:30; 15 - 29 June, from Tuesday to Sunday, 18:00 - 23:00.
