It is said that, once, in Podenzana, those who wanted to do penance arrived from everywhere in the district, carrying a stone on their back and then had to follow a long section of a path on their knees.

It is also said that the Virgin Mary (Madonna) appeared here, on a chestnut tree, kept behind the altar. Podenzana is famous in the whole world especially for its “panigaccio”, old azyme bread cooked in the embers of fire places inside terra cotta plates called “testi”, designed by local artisans, placed on top of the other.
